MARINETTE, Wis. (AP) -- Vice President Mike Pence is telling workers at a northeastern Wisconsin shipyard that President Donald Trump is working to increase military spending while Democrats are spending all their time on impeaching him.

Pence visited Marinette Marine on Wednesday. He painted Trump as the company's friend, saying the president is trying to create a 350-ship Navy and the company will play a role in building it. But he says Democrats are spending all their time on impeachment rather than funding national defense initiatives.

He urged the crowd to pressure Democrats into passing Trump's trade deal with Mexico and Canada, saying it will boost Wisconsin cheese and milk exports.

Trump narrowly won Wisconsin in 2016. The state is expected to play a key role again in 2020.
