MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAW) -- The Marshfield City Council has approved a new luxury apartment complex that will be built on the city's north side.
"We've had two new facilities over the last few years that have been built," said Scott Larson, Executive Director for the Marshfield Chamber. "So now this is the third one coming online. It flows inline with the housing survey that was done a number of years ago and helps to address one of the needs identified in that one survey."
"There's already existing multi-family development to the south," said Josh Miller, Marshfield's Director of Development Services, "so it seems like a logical progression for future growth and development."
160 total apartments, 11 separate buildings. The entire project won't be completed until 2021.
"The first few buildings to go in in 2018," Miller said. "But overall, it will probably between anywhere from a 2.5 to 3.5 year project."
Mosinee-based S.C. Swiderski will build the complex and the city plans to extend North Hume Avenue.
"Overall its a positive for Marshfield to see that kind of development come online for the community," Miller added. "That means that other companies from outside the community see that there's a need for that."
"If we have housing here that makes the community far more attractive for people to move to the community," Larson said, "that's an avenue we certainly want to address. We want to encourage more folks to consider living, working, playing here in Marshfield."
