STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) -- Crews are trying to figure out what caused a fire that destroyed a house in the town of Hull near Stevens Point.

The fire was reported just after 10 a.m. on Clarices Circle. The town of Hull Fire Chief says they spent hours trying to put the fire out, but the roof and first floor of the home collapsed.

No humans were hurt, but one cat was killed.

One person was home at the time, but she’s OK, thanks to a neighbor alerted her about the fire. Jessica Parker said heard several explosions and she knew at that moment her friend was in danger.

“I heard gunshots. I thought I did. I woke up, I looked out my window and I saw my neighbor’s house on fire,” Parker recalled.

“So I called her to let her know there were what appeared to be fireworks coming out of her garage.”

She said she knew her friend was inside taking a nap, so she quickly called her. While it is tough for her to think about what could have happened to a friend if she wasn’t there, she is thankful to live in a neighborhood where people are close.

“It scares me. She’s been one of my closest friends since I moved to the neighborhood, our kids are best friends,” Parker said.

The home is a total loss. The exact cause has not been released. The fire chief said the fire started in the garage.
