Mulitple crews respond to Shawano County house fire

SHAWANO COUNTY, Wis. (WSAW) -- Fire destroyed a home on County Highway Z, just east of Aniwa in Shawano County.

Birnamwood Fire Chief Randy Berger told NewsChannel 7 the fire started around 1:30 Thursday afternoon. He said there were no injuries but an unknown number of pets may have died in the fire.

The home is a total loss. An excavator was called in to break down the home and help put out the flaming structure.

While temperatures were below freezing, Berger said that was not the difficulty with this fire.

"During the day, everybody is shorthanded always, but good thing for mutual aid (sic). We got rural fire control out of Langlade County helping us today, Matoon, Easton and Hewitt," he said.

A family member told our reporter at the scene there was one man home at the time of the fire, but he was able to get out safely.

The family has set up a fundraising page on Facebook for those looking to help. Shannon Faust said they appreciate all of the help they have received so far and the amazing support they continue to receive.
