MERRILL, Wis. (WSAW) This fall, the Merrill community will see some major changes at the Bluejay's first home football game.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held today at Merrill High School for the new Jay Stadium.

The new facility will feature a new football field with artificial turf, a resurfaced track, new bathroom and concession facilities, permanent visitor bleachers and a new scoreboard.

A majority of the funding for this project came from private donors. Shannon Murray, Merrill High School principal, says, "The district had set aside money for what it would cost to regrade, reseed and get it back to a playable grass surface. So the district does have some investment that it would have had anyway. After that it was the Bierman's, Church Mutual, and River Valley that really got us the rest of the way."

The soccer team, marching band and Special Olympics will also use the new facility. It it scheduled to be completed on August 20th.
