Driver identifed in deadly Hwy 29 near Edgar

A semi driver killed early Thursday morning as result of a head-on crash with an oncoming semi has been identified as Gary T. Demotts, 61, of Chippewa Falls.

Investigators said a semi driving east on Hwy 29 near Edgar crossed the median and struck a westbound semi Thursday morning. The driver of the eastbound semi, Demotts, died at the scene.

The other driver, a 34-year-old man from St. Paul, Minn. was transported by ambulance. A condition update was not available.

The crash was reported around 6 a.m. on Hwy 29 near County Road H. The portion of the highway reopened around 4:30 p.m.

Cleanup and crash reconstruction were the primary reasons for the lengthy closure.
