Man's cardiac episode caused drowning in Vilas County lake

TOWNSHIP OF LAND O LAKES, Wis. (WSAW) -- A 69-year-old Illinois man died after drowning in a Vilas County Lake.

According to a press release from the Vilas County Sheriff's Office, authorities received a wireless 911 call of a male floating face down in the Township of Land O Lakes around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Responding deputies and detectives determined nothing was suspicious and a possible medical event happened while the individual was working on his dock at his lake cabin.

A forensic autopsy was performed on Thursday. The cause of death has been determined to be an accidental drowning as a result of a cardiac episode.

The victim's name is William De Wees.
