MOSINEE, Wis (WSAW) -- The Mosinee Area Action Club hosted its annual ice fishing jamboree on Saturday. More than 400 fishers arrived on the Wisconsin River as early as 7 a.m. in hopes of catching the heaviest fish. The tournament lasted until 3 p.m.
Proceeds from the event will go towards helping the Mosinee community with student scholarships, River Park improvements, handicap ramps for the elderly and even clothes for those in need. There were more than 200 door prizes and several fishing categories to win in.
Organizers say the change in weather helped bring people outdoors.
“Although the sun is not out, the temperature is perfect,” added Tom Brod, a MAAC volunteer. “People have spent the whole week in their homes due to the freezing temperatures, and now they are outdoors.”
This was the 38th year MAAC hosted the fishing jamboree.
