Wausau kennel club donates to Patriot K9s of Wisconsin

Two organizations are merging Friday afternoon, connected by man's best friend.

To tell us how the two are connect Marv Strassburger with The Paper Cities Kennel Club and Candy Wieloch, co-founder of Patriot K9s of Wisconsin joined the Sunrise 7 team.

Today at a ceremony at the Wisconsin Valley Fair, Paper Cities Kennel Club will present the Patriot K9s of Wisconsin with a check of $1,700.

Patriot K9s of Wisconsin provides training for U.S. Military Veterans and shelter dogs working together to combat the effects of PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and Military Sexual Incident (MSI). Patriot K9s of Wisconsin is based in Schofield,

According to Patriot K9s, approximately 22 veterans commit suicide each day. Based on government statistics, Wisconsin is in the top 5 states nationwide for Veteran population concentration.

Service dog teams from Patriot K9s travel from all corners of our state, some traveling over 3 hours 1 way, each week for the 6 months of training. “Wisconsin is lucky to have a top of the line training program located right in the center of the state,” said Wieloch.

Every year PCKC donates to local, Wisconsin-based organizations that provide a service involving dogs.

The proceeds come from a special raffle held at Paper Cities Kennel Club's annual AKC Dog Shows held April 7 and 8, 2018, in Merrill.
