Local Korean War Veteran Memorial ceremony draws people around the state
On Sunday, several lawmakers, community members, and veterans attended the 2018 Korean War Veterans Memorial Ceremony. Many of those in attendance were individuals who are veterans of the Korean War.
Rep. Katrina Shankland (D) for the Assembly District 71, says she spent the afternoon speaking with people who came from around the state to attend this ceremony. She believes that speaks to the impact those who lost their lives had. “Playing tribute together and coming together I think that is really special,” Rep. Shankland stated.
Over 800 Wisconsin residences died during the Korean War in the mid-1950’s. Dedicated in their memory is a series of larger-than-life bronze statues as a centerpiece of Worzella Pines park. Nearly 100 people were in attendance.
“I think it's a great program,” added State Senator Patrick Testin. “I always enjoy this program because we can never forget.”
The Wisconsin national guard and Wisconsin department of veterans affairs were invited to speak during the program.
