The Oneida County Medical Examiner says a 44-year-old inmate at the Forest County Jail likely died March 21 from self-inflicted injuries.

According to a press release from the Forest County Sheriff's Department, jail staff found William Zastawniak unresponsive shortly after 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. Lifesaving efforts were attempted by jail staff and EMTs from the Crandon Area Rescue Squad, but were unsuccessful.

Medical Examiner Larry Mathein said he's still waiting on toxicology to make a final ruling in the death.
