RHINELANDER, WIS. (WSAW) A 23-year-old Illinois man is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday for causing a drunken driving crash that killed his passenger.
Eric LaBahn, of Mount Prospect, Ill., agreed to the terms of a plea deal in June; avoiding a jury trial. LaBahn was convicted of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. Prosecutors say he had been drinking prior to the crash.
Investigators said LaBahn was driving when his vehicle crashed around 1:40 a.m. on June 10, 2018 on Military Road north of Allyn Road in Three Lakes. His passenger, Austin Lockwood, 23, also of Illinois, died at the scene. LaBahn was transported to the hospital for his injuries.
According to court documents, LaBahn said he swerved to miss a deer.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
