How to get a safe ride home on New Year's

NORTHEAST WISCONSIN (WBAY) -- Champagne will be flowing as people ring in the New Year. If you have too much to drink, do not get behind the wheel.

The legal limit to drive in Wisconsin is .08. It's lower for people who have multiple drunk driving convictions.

There's no excuse to drive drunk. Here are some of the multiple options for a safe ride home from the bar:

Tavern League SafeRide Program

The Tavern League of Wisconsin has a partnership with a number of bars. People who have had too much to drink need to ask a bartender for a SafeRide. The cost of the ride is covered by a voucher.

Drive Sober App

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has a Drive Sober app for your smartphone.

It includes a Find A Ride service that uses GPS to locate cabs, buses or designated driver services near you.

It also has a cognitive skill test to help you determine your level of impairment.

Uber and Lyft

Get a ride through Uber and Lyft. You can download the apps to your phone and pay to have someone come pick you up.
