Honor Flight Archery Shoot raises funds for veterans

WAUSAU, Wis (WSAW) -- The 3rd annual Honor Flight Archery Shoot fundraiser is taking place this weekend at Antlers Archery in Wausau.

The goal is to raise money for local veterans so they can attend a Never Forgotten Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to see the memorials constructed in their honor.

Last year the fundraiser raised more than $30,000 and this year organizers hope to raise more than $45,000.

“I’ve done archery since I was 5-years-old,” explained Chris Hamm, organizer of the Honor Flight Archery Shoot. “There’s a lot of comraderies that goes around in this sport, it's just like playing on the softball or baseball team.”

Hamm says that it cost roughly $75,000 to send an entire group of veterans on an Honor Flight and there are hundreds of people still on the waiting list. He hopes this fundraiser helps speed up the process for those waiting.

The archery shoots are family friendly and open to archers of all ages. There are also tons of raffle and auction items at each event.

Here are the upcoming Honor Flight Archery Shoot Fundraisers:

Bucks and Bulls Archery in Stevens Point on Friday, April 13-15 and
Rib Mountain Bowmen in Wausau on Saturday, August 18th.
