Holiday gift wrapping helping to benefit local families
As shoppers are heading to the store fronts to finish up their Christmas lists, one booth in the Wausau Center Mall is trying to help shoppers with their gift wrapping, and it's all for a good cause.
"The United Way of Marathon County has a program called Bundles of Joy. The money goes towards emergency diaper needs that people have,” said United Way volunteer coordinator Krista Mischo. “So, today and the rest of the month, we have a gift wrapping booth at the mall that people can come and get their gifts wrapped. Then put a donation in our money box that goes to our program," Mischo added.
Last year the gift wrapping program was able to raise a lot of money, and it's all thanks to the volunteers.
"Last year we had about 400 volunteers, and we raised over $4,000," Mischo said.
One of those volunteers is six year veteran Sarah Matsche who has seen the positive effects of this program.
"Well I love to come to this one, obviously we're in the community. You're at the mall; you get to see different people. You're just asking them for a nice donation and it's not something that you have to give certain amounts and it goes to a good cause and I like helping people," Matsche said.
Not only does this program help the people in need, but it also helps your presents to look perfect.
"Well everybody loves to open a gift. I think the wrapped gift people like more than just a bagged gift. There's something about taking the paper off and opening something up to see what’s in a box," Matsche added.
So for those who are looking to improve their gift giving this year, the united way wrapping booth with give you the professional look you need.
"Come an support the mall, shop and buy a couple last minute gifts. Get your gifts wrapped and make a generous donation. You'll feel good about it and the community will benefit from it,” Mischo said.
