ROTHSCHILD, Wis. (WSAW) -- April marks Hmong Heritage Month in Marathon County and a celebration was held on Saturday to celebrate.
The Hmong Heritage Conference is an all day event open to anyone as it promotes Hmong culture throughout the community. Many community leaders attended the event which included speakers, resource tables and even traditional Hmong dancing.
One of the big goals of the event is to educate the public about the growth of Hmong culture in our area. "We want to celebrate our culture and celebrate the successes that have happened especially here in Marathon County. I want to be able to bring anybody who is non-Hmong in so that they know who the Hmong are and why they are here," explained Payeng Yang, Chair of the Hmong Heritage Conference.
This was the first year of the conference but they hope to do it again next year.
