Fire department says clearing snow cuts into fire suppression efforts

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WSAW) -- The Oshkosh Fire Department is warning Wisconsin property owners to clear snow from fire hydrants. They say if they have to do it, it means it will be several minutes before they can begin fighting a fire.

The department posted a video on its Facebook page, showing in real time how long it could take to clear snow before they can hook up to a hydrant.

They warn house fires double in size every minute.

If you have a fire hydrant on your property, it is your responsibility to keep it clear.
