Central Wisconsin is open for winter biking with a lot of trail options for people to try. On Wednesday Jahn Martin of the Central Wisconsin Off-Road Cycling Coalition joined Sunrise 7 to talk about the trails available in the area and the proper gear needed to ride.

He said popular places to ride are Sunny Vale Park and Greenwood Hills Country Club in Wausau, Big Eau Pleine County Park in Mosinee, and Prairie Dells/Underdown in Irma, but there are many more around the area. He added that the early snow has made for a great start to the season with many trails groomed and ready to ride on.

When asked why he does fat tire biking, he replied that the kid in him has always loved to bike, but fat tire biking in the winter is one of the most magical times to ride.

When going out on the trails, he said riders need to ensure they have warm, flexible outerwear, including a helmet. See the video for more details.

The Badger State Games also host a the Hammer in the Hills Fat Bike Race on Jan. 21 starting at 9 a.m. There are races of varying lengths that people can sign up for

For those that want to give fat tire biking a try before investing in a bike, he said many bike shops will rent them out during the winter. There is a competition, however to win the bike he brought on Sunrise 7. To learn more,
