MERRILL, Wis. (WSAW) -- A Silver Alert has been canceled for a missing elderly man from Merrill. Edgar Oestreich, 82, was found safe in Delafield.
He was last seen in Menomonie around 11 a.m.
There, he interacted with a business and they grew concerned for his welfare and called police. Oestreich said he was looking for the VA. Prior to the arrival of the police, Edgar left in a 2014 Chrysler LX – red in color with a Wisconsin plate of 213-BUZ.
Family said he has been exhibiting signs in the last few months of a decline in mental facilities with dementia like actions.
In a Facebook post Thursday morning, the Lincoln County Sheriff thanked the community for their help with the case. He says their Facebook post about the missing man was shared more than 600 times and viewed by more than 25,000 people. Sheriff Ken Schneider wrote, "A motorist in Jefferson County called the Lincoln County Sheriff's office after spotting the man on I-94. They were aware of the missing person thanks the Wisconsin Sliver Alert System. The resident is now back home in Lincoln County. We cannot comment any further but be assured he has a strong family as a resource. Once again our followers and the Silver Alert system proved that those systems work and the public cares and shares and that is a very good thing."
