Dead body found behind Beloit elementary school

BELOIT, Wis. (WMTV) -- The Town of Beloit Police Department is investigating a suspicious death Saturday morning.

A deceased man was found behind Townview Elementary School at 2442 West Beloit Newark Rd just before 9:30 a.m., according to the Town of Beloit Police Department.

Upon arrival officers determined the 30-year-old man was deceased and had been there for several hours. Police do not believe the incident occurred on school grounds.

At this point, police think it was an overdose or medial event but they are still trying to figure out how the body got there.

"There’s no sign of a struggle or any kind of trauma so based on the positioning of what we found or lack of evidence it appears the body was placed there,” said Sgt. Bryan Hasse, Town of Beloit Police Department.

Sgt. Hasse said Townview Elementary school is in a rural part of town so there's not a lot of evidence or people that may have been around when this happened.

“We're still trying to determine if there are any cameras and if there is anything available or not. Physical evidence on scene there's not much of anything. So basically it's just us trying to determine any associates maybe try to track activity where this individual was or had been going. So not a lot of hard evidence to follow up on at this point in time,” said Sgt. Hasse.

The identity of the deceased is pending family notification and the completion of an autopsy.

This is an ongoing investigation of a suspicious death. The incident appears to be isolated and there is no danger to the community, according to the Town of Beloit Police Department.
