DNR says turtle deaths may happen during Wausau construction

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) -- The DNR says construction of a Wausau wastewater replacement project could result in the deaths of wood turtles. The project is necessary for upgrades to the water and wastewater treatment facilities.

The presence of the state threatened wood turtle has been confirmed in the vicinity of the project site.

DNR staff determined that the proposed project may result in the ‘incidental taking” of some turtles.
