Second floor a 'total loss' in Portage County house fire
There are no injuries but the second floor of a home in the Town of Dewey is a total loss after a fire Sunday, according to the Town of Dewey Fire Chief LeRoy Pukrop.
It happened around 3:30 Sunday evening, and it took crews about two hours to fight the flames.
The assistant fire chief was first on scene and saw smoke, and made the box alarms to call in aid. In total, even departments responded.
The home, located on Sunset Drive, is vacant property. Chief Pukrop said because it's an older home that had some remodeling, the hard part was fighting the fire in the attic.
"Installation in the attic and walls in there is what made it impossible. Once you get water in this side, there was a wall in the center, so you couldn't get it over to the other side until it actually burned through now. We made the attack from both sides, and the fire died down," said Pukrop.
The cause of fire is now under investigation, and a task force will be coming to determine the cause.
