UPDATE: Arrest warrant issued for Janas
An arrest warrant has been issued for Sean Janas, 23, wanted for prostitution charges.
Janas was taken into custody on Jan. 27, after an undercover Wausau police officer answered an ad posted on Backpage.com, according to a news release from Wausau Police.
Janas was bonded out later that night but did not report to the Department of Corrections-Division of Community Corrections office in Wausau last week, prompting police to issue the warrant.
Janas is serving parole after a 2014 conviction for poisoning and stabbing her boyfriend's dog.
Sean Janas' case sparked outrage locally and nationally. Protesters typically gathered outside the Marathon County courthouse during court hearings.
Court documents showed Janas poisoned and stabbed Mary, a 4-year-old Labrador/shepherd mix. Police said the dog died after months of torture. Janas documented the events in a journal.
Online court records show Janas will also be charged with bail jumping and retail theft-- stemming from separate incidents.
In the retail case, Janas and another woman-- who has not been arrested or charged, are accused of taking items from Walmart in Rib Mountain on Jan. 22. According to court documents, Janas remains on probation in the animal mistreatment case.
A loss prevention employee told investigators Janas placed the items on top of her purse but then later put them in her purse. According to court documents, Janas allegedly stole $23 worth of merchandise. The other woman is accused of taking $116 worth of items.
Janas was released from prison in March 2015.
