The summer's first Concert on the Square event in Wausau kicked off with good music and good weather --all for a good cause.
"It's been a great night!" Marne Bruner said beside a good friend on the sunny 400-block. "Great music, great band, great night!"
The little blessings dancing on the grass and playing in the fountain weren't the only ones at the year's first concert on the square
"..Breakfast, lunches and snacks to kind of make up for the gap with the free and reduced lunch program they're getting at school," Wausau area schools Blessings in a Backpack representative Jennifer Johnson said, adding her pleasant surprise at the community's participation Wednesday.
"It's an amazing fundraiser that helps feed kids on the weekend," Bruner said. "A lot of these kids don't have food. It gives them some energy and something that they need." Sauar agreed. "It's a great sense of community to live in Wausau and to be a part of something that's so fabulous and so impactful."
"Whenever my kids are hungry that's when they're acting up," Johnson explained. "If i don't get a snack in them as soon as we get home it's heck to pay. So it's important to me that kids are being fed."
Fed so that the smiles and energy on the kiddos playing in the found can be found on those little blessings who need a little extra food in their backpacks.
