Rep. Katrina Shankland, D-Stevens Point will host a news conference Wednesday in Madison to information the public about a bill she is co-sponsoring that would have insurance companies cover a 12-month supply of bill control. Currently, most women pick-up birth control pills monthly or every three months.

The bill was introduced in January 2016. Rep. Shankland said it would improve women’s health care access.

She said research has shown that dispensing a 12-month supply of birth control can reduce the odds of unintended pregnancy by 30 percent and reduce abortion rates by 46 percent.

A news conference on the bill will be held at the capitol at 10:30 a.m.
