BANCROFT, Wis. (WSAW) -- Veterans from across Central Wisconsin are gearing up for an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on Monday, and members of the community are sending them off in a memorable fashion.

In Bancroft on Sunday, three attendees received a police escort through a local gas station, where residents greeted them waving flags.

Kenneth Mykisen is one of them. He was in Vietnam for one year, and said he's very excited for his first Honor Flight and trip to Washington D.C.

"I had a very good friend of mine, was killed one month after we were there and it's more to honor him to go to Washington D.C.," Mykisen said.

Mykisen said he's looking forward to seeing his friend's name on the Vietnam Wall, and though he'll only be there one day, he said it will be worth it.
