HAZELHURST, Wis. (WSAW) -- A newer resident in the Northwoods is wasting no time settling into her new home, and already giving back to the community.
Debbie Rohowetz is a transplant from St. Louis.
She and her husband were packing up and preparing to move to Hazelhurst, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2017.
They decided to go forward with the move. After undergoing treatment and beating breast cancer, Debbie and her husband decided to pay it forward in their new town.
They're preparing to host the first 'Northwoods Cruise for Cancer' snowmobile fundraising event.
"I thought he was nuts. I didn't have any idea how to do a fundraiser," Rohowetz said. "So, I kind of put it out of my mind for a couple months, and then we talked about it again. And it came up, because what we found out in our little community where we live in Hazelhurst, is that I have four other neighbors that have been severely effected by breast cancer."
The ride is scheduled for January 26th, and includes a long sleeve t-shirt, a decal and lunch.
The Minocqua Forest Riders will offer guided rides.
