Attorney General Brad Schimel responds to President Trump's plan to fight opioids
Governor Scott Walker and Attorney General Brad Schimel talked about school safety and President Trump's plan to fight the nation's opioid epidemic during a stop in Marathon Monday.
Schimel played a very active role in the creation of President Trump's plan however he doesn't agree with all of it.
President Trump hopes to pass the bill with an idea that is drawing a lot of criticism. He is proposing to implement the possibility of the death penalty for drug traffickers. Schimel does not agree with that and said, "Wisconsin does not have the death penalty. I think the debate would be a distraction from the good things we can do. I don't think it is a deterrence. I am pro-life from womb to tomb."
Schimel agrees with other parts of the bill like a heavier focus on treatment for those who struggle with addiction. He also wants to focus on prevention.
