Well known Futurist visits UWSP to talk to students, local leaders on Earth Day

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) -- A nationally known Futurist and Energy Analyst spent Monday at UW-Stevens Point talking to students and local leaders about renewable energy.

He talked about innovations to overcome resource shortages and consumption demands.

Ramez Naam explained that rapidly dropping prices for renewable energy is revolutionizing industries. "Solar and wind were more expansive than coal or natural gas but that has completely changed. Now the cheapest electricity you can buy is solar and wind and now batteries are getting cheap. Now whether you care about climate change or not clean energy makes the most sense," he said.

Naam's visit was just part of a series of events being held at UWSP in celebration of Earth Week.

His visit was sponsored by the Tommy G. Thompson Center on Public Leadership.
