WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - The Pink Ribbon golf event returned to Wausau Country Club for its 26th year, supporting breast cancer awareness and treatment.

Rain made conditions challenging for golfers, but participants continued playing to support the cause.

Kyle Lindert, golf pro at Wausau Country Club, said the event demonstrates community strength.

“It just shows how strong the community can come together as a whole,” Lindert said. “Again, they get to have a lot of fun on the golf course today. We have a great list of sponsors that support the event each year and we’d love to see it continue to grow and continue to stay as strong as it is.”

Lindert said all money raised stays in central Wisconsin.

The Pink Ribbon event has raised over one million dollars to support local patients battling breast cancer.

Maddie Mittelsteadt, KTEC Charities Board Member, said the impact and making a difference is how the event stands out.

“I think it’s important the awareness of how many people are really affected by this, families, friends, and then really within the community,” Mittelsteadt said. “So then to have the community, our neighbors, showing that support and that they’re not alone throughout their journey is a really important message that we want to share with our area.”
