Highlights: Marshfield boy’s basketball wins on last-second shot, Rib Lake and Edgar boys, Phillips girls win in Friday night action
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Marshfield boy’s basketball beat Wausau East on a last-second shot to remain undefeated in Wisconsin Valley Conference play. Elsewhere in Friday night action, Rib Lake and Edgar boys, along with Phillips boys were victorious.
Marshfield pulled out the thrilling win over Wausau East on the road, where the Lumberjacks had lost just one game all year. The Tigers led by two at half, but the two sides proceeded to trade the lead back and forth throughout the second half. Brooks Hinson carried the Tigers with consistent buckets, while East got big shots from a host of players including a big and-one from Charlie Cayley and clutch threes from Jaydan Garrett. After the sides traded free throws late, the game read even with 7.6 seconds to play. Hinson got the call for the Tigers, hitting the go-ahead bucket with under two seconds remaining after slipping and falling to the ground to take the lead with 1.6 seconds to go. The ensuing inbound from East would be batted away as time expired, giving Marshfield a thrilling win to stay undefeated in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.
Elsewhere in Wausau, Rib Lake boys controlled Newman on the road to move to 15-4 on the season and extend their lead in the Marawood-North. In Edgar, the boys team beat Phillips 61-49.
On the girls side of Edgar against Phillips, the Loggers continued their terrific season with a 74-23 win. The Loggers move to 19-2 on the season.
