‘Swing Against Cancer’ golf outing returns for 8th year in Wisconsin Rapids
The golf event offers a chance to play golf with local celebrities and athletes with proceeds going to community members battling cancer.
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - It was great weather for the 8th annual “Swing Against Cancer” at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids Monday.
More than 44 teams gathered alongside some former Green Bay Packers for the fundraiser. The familiar faces included Johnnie Gray, Jared Abbrederis, and Jeff Janis just to name a few.
In 2020, the outing raised more than $29,000 for 19 families battling cancer. This year, they hope to top that number. According to the event’s Facebook page, the money raised at the outing doesn’t go toward research instead it’s funneled directly to the families in need.
“Anytime you get a chance to go into the community and do it, it’s for a good cause. Obviously, cancer is a big thing for a lot of individuals and families. So, if you can raise some money for that it’s a great thing,” said Abbrederis.
If you weren’t able to attend the event, ‘Swing Against Cancer’ will team up with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters for an event on the evening of Aug. 7.
