Greenwood, Marathon and Rosholt punch their tickets to state baseball
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Greenwood, Marathon and Rosholt are headed to Grand Chute for state baseball next week.
In Division 4, Greenwood took care of business this afternoon by thumping St. Thomas Aquinas/Lena in the sectional semifinals 15-1. Greenwood followed it up by jumping ahead 6-0 against Edgar in the sectional finals. Greenwood would hold on from there to win 7-3.
Rosholt is also going to state in Division 4. The Hornets poured in eight runs in the first four innings of their sectional semifinal against Shiocton. Rosholt would advance with a 10-4 win. In the sectional finals, Rosholt scored two in the first inning. That would be plenty for Blade Niewiadomski. He pitched 7 innings with 8 strikeouts and only one run leading the Hornets to a 3-1 victory.
The Division 4 state tournament takes place on Monday.
Marathon will be headed to the Division 3 state tournament on Tuesday. Brock Warren pitched a gem for the Red Raiders in the sectional semis. He threw a complete game, one hit allowed and seven strikeouts. Marathon topped Aquinas 6-2. In the sectional final, it took extra innings for Marathon to come out on top. Jaden Koeller helped keep it at 1-1. He threw 7 2/3 innings with only one run allowed. The Red Raiders blew it open with seven runs in the ninth to take home the 8-1 win.
