WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - A 4-year-old Great Dane from Wausau has placed at the Westminster Dog Show, receiving top honors in the Great Dane category and third in the working dog group.

Landmark-Divine Acres Kiss Myself, I’m So Pretty, or “Lovely” won Best of Breed last weekend.

This is Lovely’s second trip to Westminster and this time she received top honors in the Great Dane category and third in the working dog group.

“It was amazing, I think I blacked out for a little bit,” breeder Melissa Ruppert said.

To Ruppert, breeding and showing her dogs has been 10 years she’ll never forget, but placing at the nation’s most famous dog show is second to none.

“It was just a really incredible experience, it was something I never could have dreamt (sic) of even happening, being an owner handler in a sea of professional handlers it sometimes can make it hard to compete,” Ruppert said.

Lovely took third in the working dogs category at Westminster and has won a total of 11 “best” in various dog shows, you could say Lovely is a top dog.

“She’s kind of a one in a million dog,” Ruppert said. “She was born to show, she loves the show ring, she loves the crowd, she loves the cheering.”

Lovely qualified to go to the 2,500 dog competition this year since she finished as the number one Great Dane in the country in 2020.

Ruppert said being at the show is an honor, but placing was totally unexpected.

“It’s something that I never could have imagined actually happening just because it’s the Super Bowl of dog shows,” she said.

The Westminster Dog Show took place at Lyndhurst Estates and was more low key, according to Ruppert.

She said the memory of being there with man’s best friend that will have lasting effects.

“It was incredible, a lot of people don’t get to experience that in a lifetime, so it was pretty amazing,” Ruppert said.

Ruppert has five other Great Danes at home and she said she would love to go back to Westminster again in the future.
