TOWN OF MERRILL, Wis. (WSAW) - Water quality in Devil Creek near Merrill is improving after the source of a manure spill was identified and remediation efforts took place.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources assisted in investigating the source of the spill. The manure release was reported to have originated off of Joe Snow Road, approximately 4 miles southwest of the Town of Merrill on June 9.

Investigators said the spill lead to the deaths of fish at multiple locations within the creek and the Wisconsin River.

As of Friday, no additional manure is being released from the manure pit. The DNR is continuing to monitor the situation and investigate the release.

The amount of manure and duration of the release is still unknown.
