Dining on the Street returns to Downtown Wausau
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - A large portion of N. 3rd St. will be blocked off every Wednesday and Saturday until Sept. 15 to provide a different dining experience for Downtown Wausau restaurant patrons.
“Dining on the Street” first came to Wausau during summer of 2020. Wausau River District Executive Director Black Opal-Wahoske said its return was long awaited.
“Last year with the pandemic we really had to think out of the box and create unique opportunities for our restaurant owners,” Opal-Wahoske explained. “However, it was so well received, not only from our business community, but also from our restaurant patrons, we’re bringing it back again this year.”
Participating restaurants include: Back When Café, Benvenuto’s City Grill Restaurant, Ciao, Jalapeño’s Mexican Restaurante & Bar, Llc, Lemongrass Asian Fusion, Mint Café, Polito’s Pizza Wausau & Rothschild and Townies Grill.
Saturdays were added as additional days for the event due to demand. In years past, people who failed to make reservations were not always able to enjoy the experience.
This year, more entertainment will be added to the summer-long event, according to Opal-Wahoske.
“We do have more live music booked this year,” Opal-Wahoske explained. “We’ll be hosting, in conjunction, with concerts on the square, which is going to be phenomenal. And we’re also engaging our visual artists, so painters, I think we have hulahoopers, a glassblower coming down here, to really kind of add to the entertainment element of downtown.”
Concerts on the Square will begin next Wednesday (June 16) and will reoccur with different artists every following Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.
An additional concert on July 4 was also recently added.
