College debt continues to soar: Tips for young people to stretch their dollar

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Let this number sink in. American’s owe $1.7 trillion in student loans. That’s an average payment of nearly $400 a month.

A new survey from budget travel brand CheapTickets reveals that student loan debt is limiting the lives of recent graduates. More than 70% say student loans prevent them from traveling, and 1-in-5 grads would give up TV streaming services or their wedding day to graduate debt-free.
