WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) -Boating season is right around the corner. Due to cold weather, the Marathon County Parks and Recreation Department has not put their launches in yet.

Jamie Polley, the director for the department said they can’t put them in until they know everything is melted. She expects them to be in and accessible to the public by mid-April.

Until then, Polley suggests using the time to prep for the season. Annual boat launch permit stickers are available now for Wausau and Marathon County parks. New this year, patrons can purchase their permits online at this website.

This month the department is working on updating their park signs with QR codes that link directly to the permit information site. Permits can also be purchased at the main park office, ordered by completing a self-registration envelope form at any of the six-county parks or for city park boat landings during the boating season.

Polley said now is also the time to clean and check all electrical equipment on boats. She suggests taking a few hours to stock boats with safety equipment and refresh boating safety protocols.
