Spencer’s dome inflated, leaves community members excited
SPENCER, Wis. (WSAW) - After two years of planning, the dome in Spencer was inflated Saturday.
“Oh my gosh, we’ve been waiting for this for so long,” said Logan Bezlyk, a kindergarten teacher in Spencer.
“Perfect slogan around here, ‘it’s a great day to be a Spencer Rocket,’” district administrator Mike Endreas said.
The dome has long been needed, says those in Spencer, and many community members came out to see it inflated.
“I don’t even know if I can put it into words the impact that this will have on our community,” School Board member Jordan Buss said. He first proposed the idea in 2018.
That impact will include a basketball court, new wrestling room, a brand new weight room, and so much more.
To see it today meant a lot.
“It’s a little taller than I was, you know just from the inside.” Buss said.
“You think you have a concept in your mind and then you step inside and you’re like “wow,”” Endreas added.
A surreal moment for many who’ve never seen this process before, and the community showed up.
“It’s going to make such a different for our sports program and it’s a safe place to go,” said Bezlyk, who’s kids play sports, including her oldest who will play basketball in the gymnasium.
“It just speaks volume about this community. You know, we’re a really tight-knit family-oriented community and school district,” Buss said.
The place still has a long way to go before being completed, but now that’s the structure is complete, it’s easier to imagine what will be there one year from now.
“After I got over the initial wow, I looked around and said ‘That’s going there. There’s the locker rooms,” Endreas said.
“The handbell choir room for our performing arts students, to the community fitness center that will be open to students and our community. IT’s just an amazing facility,” said Buss.
