Share Your Holidays shatters record, tops million dollar mark
Changes forced by pandemic don’t hinder donations
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Share Your Holidays shattered a record in 2020, with donors contributing $208,532. The previous record of $100,091 was set in 2019. That included matching grants from several benefactors. In 2020, donations alone were $118,532. Matching grants of $90,000 boosted the total to $208,532.
In all 18-years of the event, the total amount donated to Share Your Holidays, including matching grants comes to $1,026,857. Experts say $1 given to a food pantry can buy three to four meals. That does not include tons of nonperishable foods donated over the years. In 2020, NewsChannel 7 asked for monetary donations only because of the pandemic. The pandemic also changed the Wausau Holiday Parade and forced the cancellation of the Celebrity Gas Pump, two popular Share Your Holidays events that generate a lot of food donations. All of the money goes to The Salvation Army and Neighbors’ Place in Wausau.
Sponsors of Share Your Holidays are Incrediblebank and Wagner Shell.
Incrediblebank is also among the benefactors contributing to the matching grants. They also include The Dudley Foundation, The MacDonald Foundation, The Halvorsen-Miller Family, The B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation and the Judd S. Alexander Foundation.
From all of us at NewsChannel 7, we’re humbled you choose our portal to help people. Thank you so much for sharing your holidays!
