A senior sendoff unlike any other
MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAW) - A senior sendoff unlike any other in the Wausau area. An All-Star game featuring the best softball players from five area schools. Wausau West, East, and Newman teaming up to take on DC Everest and Mosinee.
“I think we would’ve all been heartbroken if we didn’t have this game today,” said Tanner Walter of Wausau West.
Everest/Mosinee beat Wausau Consolidated 8-6, but the most important part of the evening was one last chance to dig in the batter’s box, step in the circle, and have fun.
“It still felt pretty competitive,” said Kyla Osowski of Mosinee. “But it was a lot of joking around and having a good time.
Even if it was just an exhibition, you could feel that it was something bigger.
“I was kind of thinking before the game I was telling Gabby (Braatz, of Wausau East), like this kind of feels like we’re at state, or like a national championship,” said Abby Schilling of Wausau West. “Like just that feeling with all the people here to support us.
It was also a night of things coming full circle, with many girls ending their high school softball careers alongside teammates from long ago.
“We were just talking about how we all used to play together in elementary and middle school,” said Julia Seidel of Newman. “And to come back and finish it out how we started was pretty cool.
It wasn’t how they envisioned putting on these jerseys for the last time, but…
“I feel like it was a good end to the chapter,” said Osowski.
