DNR: Wis. River Between Mosinee and Rothschild Dams Unsafe

(Press Release) MOSINEE, WI – Wausau Paper and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources have issued a joint warning that potentially unsafe ice and river conditions may develop on the Wisconsin River north of the Mosinee Dam, including Half Moon Lake, to the Rothschild Dam due to ice related early seasonal flashboard release atthe Mosinee dam.

Potentially dangerous conditions may develop for all sportsmen and winter users of this section of the Wisconsin River due to the greater than normal risk of a rapid lowering of Wisconsin River levels and weakening of surface ice that will exist from now through the remainder of the 2012 winter ice season.

Sportsmen are advised to be vigilant regarding further use of this section of the Wisconsin River, including Half Moon Bay for the remainder of the 2012 season including the early removal of temporary structures.
