These days there are many sources of news and information, including television (broadcast, cable, satellite), radio (broadcast and satellite),
the Internet (via land-line or wi-fi), and many cellular services. Weather
information can be obtained from all of these sources, but for severe
weather concerns, reliability is most critical.

The source of the weather information needs to be counted on to reliably and accurately provide the latest in severe weather updates in the most timely manner. And in spite of the multitude of communication sources available today, experience has shown the most reliable outlets for such information are local.

At NewsChannel 7 we have always worked to provide such timely and relevant weather information, and we continue to seek new and innovative ways to make the information available. Our suite of products includes (in addition to the traditional WSAW-TV), the 24/7 Digital Weather Channel, our WebChannel (www.wsaw.com/weather) including the very popular My Local Titan Radar, and our 7 to Go cellular service. The TITAN weather system in our Weather Lab is the most advanced weather information system available in television. Our meteorologists on staff are trained to ensure the best around-the-clock weather coverage in this area.

As a source of information the Severe Weather Safety Plan should also include a NOAA Weather Radio. NOAA is short for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the parent organization of the National Weather Service. NOAA radios provide continuous weather information, including the broadcast of all weather advisories, watches, and warnings issued for a given local area. NOAA weather radio broadcasts are now available in most locations in the U.S. These radios come in a variety of sizes, from portable to desktop models, with AC or DC power options or both. Some weather radios can be set to trigger an alarm only in the event of warnings issued for a specific county. NOAA Weather Radios are reasonably priced, with most units in the range of $20-70. You can learn more about these radios by clicking here.
