Walker Expands Drought Emergency to All of Wisconsin

By: Associated Press

Gov. Scott Walker has expanded a drought emergency to all 72 counties of Wisconsin.

Walker took the action Wednesday because of the abnormally dry conditions extending across most of the state.

In a statement, Walker says the increase in wildfires because of the hot weather and lack of rain is adding to the risk of "major economic losses, especially in agriculture."

Last week, Walker declared a drought emergency in 42 Wisconsin counties.

The statewide executive order directs Wisconsin Emergency Management to coordinate state efforts in response to the drought. It also directs all state agencies to assist in the response and recovery.

The declaration also waives fees and expedites the permitting process to allow farmers to divert water from certain streams and lakes without causing serious environmental damage.
