Schools around the area are paying close attention to the weather. Rhinelander school officials say their biggest concern is making sure students and parents will be safe making it to and from school.
Snow covered roads are a hazard that can be quite dangerous in the winter months.
According to Rhinelander Assistant Superintendent Dave Wall, Rhinelander Public Schools use a system called Alert Now. It is an automated calling system that will send out thousands of messages to all parents and or students.
The alert can be sent out by telephone, email, landline, or even cell phones. The alert will inform those receiving the message that school was cancelled or delayed for that particular day.
The decision for which way the parent or student wants to get updated is up to the individual.
According to Wall, the system makes alerting many individuals about certain events, like delays, a reality. The school system will continue to use the alert system throughout the winter months.
