(Press Release) At approximately 8:40 am on 9/2/11 the storm entered western Waushara County and traveled east through the county. Downed trees caused damage to structures in the Coloma, Wautoma, and Mt. Morris areas. Downed trees and power lines have caused wide spread power outages and many roads being blocked.

Residents are encouraged be cautious around power lines that could still be charged. Emergency crews are working to restore electrical service and open roads. Waushara County Emergency Management has set up a shelter in the lower level of the Courthouse. Those persons on oxygen or other medical issues without electrical service can report to the Courthouse for assistance or contact the Waushara County Sheriff’s Office at 920-787-3321.

Teams of emergency responders are going door to door in the areas most affected by the storm to ensure the safety of residents.

Silver Lake in Wautoma has large trees in the lake making boating dangerous and water skiing hazardous. The boat landing on some area lakes may be closed for the week end. Travel is being discouraged. If you must travel be prepared for objects and emergency responders that may be working on or near the roads.

Emergency Operations Center has been established at the Sheriff’s Office 430 E. Division St., Wautoma.
