(Press Release) Friendship – A powerful and fast-moving line of storms this morning (Friday) has resulted in power outages across much of Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative’s service area. Power outages are currently reported on 16 ACEC substations across a seven county region. Systemwide, the cooperative is working to clear trees, branches and other debris from rights-of-way.
At the time of this news release, ACEC had more than 6,400 cooperative member accounts without electric service. Outage calls continued to be received. Adams-Columbia members can report power outages and other power line emergencies by calling the toll-free number: 1-888-928-2232.
Due to the widespread nature of the storm damage, no estimate is currently available as to when power will be fully restored. Line crews are dispatched and will continue their work until everyone is back in service.
As clean-up work continues, everyone is reminded to be aware of downed or damaged electric lines. Be sure to report all problems immediately and keep a safe distance away from the power lines.
It is unsafe for individuals to cut trees or remove debris that is touching or is near electric power lines. Downed power lines must be given the same respect as energized power lines. It is possible for downed lines to be reenergized at any moment without notice or warning.
Standby emergency power generators must be properly installed by a qualified electrician to avoid potentially life threatening consequences. Standby emergency power generators that are not properly separated from high voltage power lines must only be used to power individual appliances that are directly plugged into the generator. This is an absolute rule that must be followed to ensure personal safety and the safety of others responding to any storm emergency.
Safety must always be the first priority of everyone involved in storm-recovery work.
