MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin health officials confirm eight heat-related deaths since July 1. And another 11 deaths also may be heat-related.

While half of the confirmed deaths happened in southern Wisconsin, officials say two of the deaths were in Barron County and two in La Crosse County.

Officials continue to urge Wisconsin residents to take precautions as the hot weather continues this week.

State Health Officer Dr. Henry Anderson says people should keep hydrated, slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.

The Department of Health Services continues to gather information on the number of heat-related deaths statewide.
