MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Wisconsin maple syrup producers raised production levels by 33 percent this spring.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports production rose from 150,000 gallons last year to 200,000 gallons in 2009.
Ninety-two percent of the producers surveyed by the department said temperatures were favorable for sap flow this year.
Last year, only 70 percent said temperatures were favorable. But the average price of $39.10 per gallon for last year's production was up by $3.40 from 2007.
Nationally, Vermont led in production this year with 920,000 gallons.
