No major reporting stations across Northcentral Wisconsin have reached 90 degrees this summer, according to the National Weather Service office in Green Bay. One possible reason may be due to heavy rainfall late this spring and early summer.

The NWS says the excessive rain nearly saturated sub soils. On sunny, warm days, deep soil moisture evaporates more easily. Since evaporation is a cooling process, temperatures had a more difficult time surpassing the mid 80s.

To date, Wausau's warmest day was July 15 when the temperature reached 88. On average, Wausau's last 90-degree day is August 8. The last year Wausau did not have a 90-degree day was in 2004.

In Rhinelander, the warmest day this year was July 7 with 86 degrees. The last 90-degree day averages out to August 6. 2004 was also the last year Rhinelander did not have a 90-degree day.
